Divide County Elementary recently introduced BARR U-Time to strengthen relationships and support student success. During this structured time, teachers meet with small groups of students to build connections, check in on student well-being, and discuss academic progress. The goal of U-Time is to ensure every student feels known, supported, and encouraged both academically and socially.

🏀 Math Madness in Mrs. Ator’s 3rd Grade! 🏀
With March Madness taking over the basketball world, Mrs. Ator’s 3rd graders brought the excitement right into the classroom with Math Madness!
Students worked in teams solving addition and subtraction problems using place value strategies. Every correct answer earned their team a trip to the free throw line where they could shoot for extra points! 🏀
The room was full of teamwork, strategy, cheering, and some clutch shots as students practiced their math skills in a fun, competitive way. It was a great reminder that learning can be just as exciting as game day!
Great job to our 3rd graders for bringing their A-game in math and basketball today! 🏆📚🏀

✏️ Opinion Writing in 3rd Grade: Mrs. Ator's Class
Today we started building the foundation for our upcoming opinion writing project. Our final goal over the next couple of weeks will be for students to write a 1–2 paragraph opinion piece, but we are taking it step by step and focusing on one skill at a time.
Today’s learning target was understanding the difference between facts and opinions.
Students worked together in small groups to sort sentences into fact or opinion. This led to great discussions as students explained why they thought a sentence was a fact or an opinion and listened to their classmates’ reasoning.
To wrap up the lesson, students completed an exit ticket where they wrote:
✏️ One fact sentence
✏️ One opinion sentence
This small step helps students build the skills they need to support their ideas when we begin writing full opinion paragraphs.
Great thinking and teamwork today!

Huge congratulations to Jurnee on being selected to the All-Region 3 Basketball Team!
Jurnee was a defensive nightmare all season long — racking up steals, locking down opponents, and making life tough on the floor. She’s a true floor general, a natural team leader, and someone who sets the tone on both ends of the court. She’s also a fantastic role model for our younger players to look up to and learn from as they grow in the game.
So proud of this well-deserved recognition. Keep shining! 🏀👏
